Where to run HumHub: the hosting options compared

HumHub is open source, so anyone can host it, and several companies do. The offers differ in one thing above all: how much of the running is done for you. This page lists every way to run HumHub, what each one takes off your hands, what it costs, and when it is the right choice.

The options at a glance

Facts read on each provider's own pages in October 2026, linked from each heading. Prices as published, in the provider's currency.

Self-hosting (your server, the official Docker image)

  • Run for you: Nothing: you install, update, back up, monitor and set up email
  • HumHub support: The documentation and the community forum
  • Modules: Everything, Professional Edition modules included if you license them
  • Where: Anywhere you choose
  • Price: A small server from a few euros a month, plus the hours of the person who runs it

HumHub GmbH, Professional Edition with SaaS hosting

  • Run for you: Hosting, daily backups and updates; ready within a business day; a free trial without a card; on-premise with your own code as the alternative
  • HumHub support: The company that develops HumHub: its helpdesk and onboarding packages with workshops at €1,575 or €2,575
  • Modules: The marketplace plus the Professional Edition modules (Advanced LDAP, SAML SSO, SOLR, News, Enterprise Theme)
  • Where: German and EU data centers (ISO 27001)
  • Price: €144 a month for up to 100 users (license plus €36 hosting), 10% off yearly, custom quote from 1,000 users, excluding VAT

Elestio

  • Run for you: A virtual machine with HumHub installed: system and software updates, offsite backups, certificates, monitoring
  • HumHub support: Generic support by tier (one business day on the production tier); HumHub itself is yours to administer
  • Modules: The marketplace; you install and configure modules yourself
  • Where: 62 cities in 20 countries on ten cloud partners, or your own machine
  • Price: From $11 a month, billed hourly; support tiers priced separately

Cloudron

  • Run for you: App updates, backups and email on the Cloudron server you run
  • HumHub support: The Cloudron forum; HumHub administration is yours
  • Modules: The marketplace; themes uploaded through the file manager
  • Where: Wherever your Cloudron server is
  • Price: Cloudron's subscription plus your server

YunoHost

  • Run for you: A free self-hosting system with a community-maintained HumHub package
  • HumHub support: The YunoHost community
  • Modules: The marketplace
  • Where: Your server
  • Price: Free software; your server and your time

Shared hosting with a one-click installer (cPanel and Softaculous hosts)

  • Run for you: Web space and a database; the installer installs HumHub and updates it when you click
  • HumHub support: Hosting support, not HumHub support
  • Modules: The marketplace
  • Where: The host's data centers, often in the USA
  • Price: A few dollars a month; resources shared with other sites, cron and queue workers depend on the host

CUZY Hosting

  • Run for you: Everything: HumHub and module updates after a canary phase, security fixes within 48 hours, encrypted backups, monitoring, email delivery, an isolated stack per community
  • HumHub support: The developers of 34 HumHub modules, in English or French; Business tickets answered first
  • Modules: The marketplace plus every CUZY module; custom modules and themes on Business; no Professional Edition modules
  • Where: Germany (EU), the USA or Singapore (APAC), your choice
  • Price: Team €90/month or €900/year, Business €450/month or €4,500/year, unlimited members, 14-day free trial

Which one fits whom

Each option is the right one for someone. Here is who, in our experience of hosting HumHub since 2017.

Self-hosting, Docker, YunoHost, Cloudron

An organization with a technical person who has time for it, rules that require its own infrastructure, or a wish to modify HumHub itself. Cheapest in cash, most expensive in hours: the task list says which.

HumHub GmbH's SaaS

Companies that want the company that develops HumHub, a larger team than CUZY, behind their platform: the Professional Edition modules (Advanced LDAP, SAML single sign-on, SOLR search, News), onboarding workshops, an enterprise contract, and the option of an on-premise installation with their own code. What HumHub's offer has that CUZY does not.

Elestio and one-click installers

A developer or a small club that wants HumHub on a machine of its own at the lowest price and accepts administering HumHub (modules, configuration, upgrades of the application) itself.

CUZY Hosting

Organizations without an IT team that want HumHub run by people who build its modules: the region of their choice, every CUZY module, support by the developers in English or French, a flat price with unlimited members, and custom modules and themes on Business. What is included.

Any of them, then another

A HumHub installation is a database and an uploads folder. Every option above lets you take both away, so the choice is never final: start small, move when the community grows. CUZY imports a self-hosted or hosted instance and exports yours once a day.

What no option changes

The software is the same Community Edition everywhere (the Professional Edition adds modules, not a different core). Spaces, streams, wiki, files, calendar, the mobile app and the marketplace are the same on a €5 server and on managed hosting.

What CUZY does that the others do not

  • Only HumHub. Every server, script and procedure is built for it; the people who answer tickets write HumHub modules.
  • Every CUZY module included: 34 modules, maps, surveys, mass notifications, LMS, eCommerce, single sign-on; on Team the free ones and the paid ones at 50% off, on Business all of them.
  • Your own modules and themes on Business, written by your developers or by CUZY, reviewed and deployed by us. The only other provider that develops for its customers is the publisher.
  • Three regions, one price: Germany (EU), the USA or Singapore (APAC), chosen when the community is created; an isolated stack per community, its database encrypted at rest.
  • Written for the people who sign off: a GDPR processor agreement accepted online, a sub-processor list, an administrator handbook, a public status page and answers to vendor assessments.

What CUZY does not offer: the Professional Edition modules, on-premise installation, workshops. Plans and prices · What HumHub costs, all in.

Questions about hosting HumHub

Does HumHub GmbH host the free Community Edition?

Its pricing page (October 2026) sells SaaS hosting together with the Professional Edition license: €144 a month for up to 100 users, which brings the Professional Edition modules and the support of the company that develops HumHub, a larger team than CUZY, with on-premise installation and your own code upload as the alternative. The Community Edition is run by you, or by a third-party host such as CUZY, which hosts it with every CUZY module and without the Professional Edition modules.

Can I move my HumHub from one host to another?

Yes. A HumHub installation is a database and an uploads folder; any host that gives you both lets you leave. CUZY imports a self-hosted or hosted instance from a database dump and the uploads, and subscribers download a complete export once a day to go the other way.

Is a one-click installer on shared hosting enough?

To try HumHub with a small club, yes. Updates stay your job (the installer applies them when you click), backups follow the host's policy, and the queue and cron jobs HumHub relies on run only if the host allows them. Most communities that grow move to a server of their own or to managed hosting, which the export makes easy.

Which option is the cheapest?

In cash, self-hosting on a small server; in hours, managed hosting. The task list of the self-hosted comparison says what those hours are, and the HumHub pricing guide adds the software, the modules and the hosting for a 100-person organization.

Try the managed option first

A community of your own in about two minutes, every CUZY module included, no card. If you prefer your own server later, the export goes with you.
