HumHub upgrades when you choose, and a testing instance to try them first

Until now CUZY moved every hosted community to a new HumHub version on its own schedule. From 4 November 2026 the customer decides: a new version is offered in the dashboard, and the upgrade runs when it suits the community. Business communities also get a testing instance, a copy to try the new version on first.

What changes for customers

  • A new HumHub version is offered, not imposed. CUZY checks it first, then offers it in the dashboard usually within a few days, up to 2 weeks after its release (a minor version from the .1 on). You are notified by email, in the customer account and on the mobile app, with what changes and what to check.
  • You pick the moment. The upgrade runs the coming night in your community's region, or right away. A backup is taken first, as before, and you are told when it is done.
  • The release notes come with it. Each version carries a short note from CUZY on the changes that matter to an administrator, and the link to the full list of changes. If you skip versions, the upgrade dialog shows the notes of every version in between.
  • Security fixes do not wait. They still reach every community usually within 48 hours, whatever the version it runs.
  • A community is not left behind. After 6 months without an upgrade while a newer version is available, a reminder is sent every month; after 12 months CUZY contacts the customer and, if nothing has happened, upgrades the community.

The testing instance (Business)

A Business community can now have a testing instance: a copy made from its latest backup, created from the dashboard in a few minutes, to try a new version, a module or a setting before members see it. Only administrators can sign in; every other member is anonymized, email reaches administrators only, and the credentials of connected services (payment, maps, single sign-on) are removed, so a test never reaches the outside. The uploaded files of production are shown read-only, never copied.

The copy is upgraded at once, opened from the dashboard, and deleted 7 days after its last use, with a notice the day before. How to use it, with a checklist of what to look at after an upgrade: test a HumHub upgrade before your community sees it.

Why the change

A community is a tool its members rely on every day, and its administrators know when a change is acceptable: not the week of a general assembly, not before the summer break. The new policy leaves that choice to them and gives Business communities the means to make it safely. The terms are in the update and support policy, version 1.4; the plans are on the pricing page.
